Sustainable Bricks

Sustainable bricks constitute one of the core focus areas of Biohavn’s initial concept, developed alongside the green facade approach.

The objective is to significantly reduce the embodied carbon of buildings while preserving the familiarity, durability, and widespread use of brick as a key construction material. Rather than replacing a well-established product, this approach seeks to improve its environmental performance within contemporary building practices.

Biohavn’s initial formulation is based on raw materials with lower embodied carbon. In certain applications, particularly in interior uses, these materials may also contribute to carbon absorption or reduction of ambient CO₂. In addition, modern production methods enable a substantial reduction of embodied carbon during the manufacturing process itself.

Biohavn is a young, startup-stage company, and advancing these bricks toward production requires time, further technical development, testing, and regulatory approval for the European market. At this stage, the company is seeking investment or suitable partnerships to support validation and certification.

By aligning material development with European and Danish regulatory frameworks and climate ambitions, sustainable bricks are intended to support both environmental performance and long-term economic resilience, particularly in the context of increasing carbon-related requirements and taxation.
